It is truly baffling how the justice system seems to operate on a double standard when it comes to politicians. Congressman George Santos is facing a laundry list of charges including conspiracy, wire fraud, false statements, falsification of records, aggravated identity theft, and credit card fraud. Yet, Donald Trump, who has been indicted on multiple counts in various federal and state courts, seems to be getting a free pass.
Running for president is a much bigger deal than running for a congressman position. The responsibilities and expectations are on a whole different level. So why is it that George Santos is being treated like a criminal mastermind while Trump is allowed to roam free?
Trump has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Florida on 40 counts related to obstructing an investigation and unlawfully retaining classified documents. He has also been indicted on 34 counts in a criminal proceeding in New York State Court for hush money payments made to an adult film star during his 2016 presidential campaign. These are serious charges that should not be taken lightly.
It is clear that there is a case of favoritism at play here. Why is George Santos being thrown under the bus while Trump is being coddled and protected? It is a disgrace to see how the justice system can be manipulated based on someone's status and power.
It is time for the justice system to wake up and start treating all politicians equally. No one should be above the law, no matter how high their position may be. It is time to hold everyone accountable for their actions, regardless of their political affiliation. Let's hope that justice will prevail in the end.
