‘Girlfriends’ Just Hit Netflix, So What Is The Cast Up To Now In 2021?

Girlfriends, one of the best-loved Black sitcoms of the early aughts, just celebrated its 20th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, all eight seasons (172 episodes) are now available on Netflix for all your binge-watching pleasure.

To celebrate the move to the streaming service, star Tracee Ellis Ross shared a throwback snap on Instagram Thursday. The photo is from the episode where the group of gal pals campaign for John Kerry in 2004, the Democratic nominee running for president against incumbent George W. Bush.

"The Girlfriends back in the day getting their civic engagement on…. supporting Kerry for President in super low rise jeans with little muffin tops because the 2000s — you know, simpler times," she captioned the post. "Who’s ready for Girlfriends on @netflix? Start streaming at midnight!" (**raises hand**)

But where is the cast of Girlfriends today? Here's what the stars have been up to since their sitcom ended:

Since Girlfriends, Tracee's become an even bigger star, thanks to her role as Bow Johnson on black-ish, which she's played since 2014. Earlier this year, she also starred in the film The High Note alongside Dakota Johnson, playing a pop star not unlike her own mother, Diana Ross. Beyond acting, Tracee also created Pattern Beauty, a collection of hair care products specifically designed for curly locks. In her free time, she loves doing at-home Tracy Anderson Method workouts.

Golden Brooks played Maya Wilkes, who starts the series as Joan's assistant at her law firm and ends it as an author and housewife.

Since Girlfriends ended, she's appeared in several films, including YA dystopia The Darkest Minds.

Golden also appeared on reality show Hollywood Divas for three seasons, which chronicled her and four other actresses coming together to produce their own project. In 2019, she starred in the Patti Jenkins limited series I Am the Night, alongside Chris Pine and India Eisley. The series was hailed for its treatment of Hollywood's Black Dahlia murder as a coming-of-age story.

Persia White played bohemian Lynn Searcy, Joan and Toni's college roommate. By the end of Girlfriends, Lynn has started a band and signed a record deal.

If you were too young to watch Girlfriends when it originally ran, you may know Persia best as Abby Bennett Wilson on the CW drama The Vampire Diaries.

In 2014, she married her Vampire Diaries co-star, Joseph Morgan, who played vampire Klaus Mikaelson.

Like her character Lynn, Persia is now also a musician and released her debut album Mecca in 2009.

On Girlfriends, Jill Marie Jones played Joan's childhood friend Toni, who is considered the most popular and self-absorbed character on the show.

After the show ended, she appeared in The Perfect Holiday opposite Gabrielle Union and played the recurring role of Cynthia Irving on horror show Sleepy Hollow. Since 2018, Jill has appeared on a web series called Monogamy, which is now also available on Netflix.
